Wonderful Wednesdays in Hong Kong
November 16, 2016
So Wednesdays in Hong Kong are amazing because of two words. FREE MUSEUMS. Yes you read that right entry to every museum in Hong Kong are completely free! So naturally we had to hit up the two that are closest to us! We hopped on the subway and first checked out the Hong Kong Science Museum. It was so awesome! We can’t imagine how much fun it would have been if we actually had little kids but for us adults we still had a blast. They had everything from crazy mirror mazes, dinosaur bones, human brains, electromagnetic games and everything in-between. It was seriously the coolest museum I have ever went to and of course it made it even better because we didn’t pay a dime.
After we had our fill at the science one, we walked across to the Hong Kong Museum of History. Here we learned about how the island of Hong Kong formed and the Chinese dynasty’s that first lived here. We learned all about their different cultures and saw their old clothes that they would wear. It was also really cool but I would recommend the science one if you have little kids!
Once we were done walking around we decided to head over to Hong Kong Island, which is the one directly across from Kowloon where we are living. We took the subway this time to get across, yes it goes under the water! SO SICK! But you can also take the ferryboat, which we will do in the future when we are not in a hurry. We went all the way to the last stop which was called Kennedy Town. We followed our GPS map that we had pinned before we left to check out this cool place called Sai Wan Swimming Shed. We had to hike for about 20 minutes through the older parts of the city and through the jungle areas and boy was it pretty. We hiked down these stairs to get to the “shed” but I would call it more of a man made pier. It was such a beautiful view especially with the sun starting to set. We got to take a couple pictures on the shed and then we walked around the area and found a cliff. We sat there and enjoyed seeing the huge cargo ships sail past us as the sunset. It is amazing how you can go from big city sky scrapers to serene ocean views. That is only one of the hundred things that makes Hong Kong so versatile and perfect.

So we were in a little bit of a time crunch so we decided to hop on the city bus to get closer to where we needed to go which was the Hong Kong Jockey Club to see some horse races!! Another great thing about Wednesdays is the horse racing that goes on as well!! It was something Clint and I have always wanted to attend because who doesn’t want to go to a horse race??!! We got to the stadium and it was CRAZY!! So many people and bands and food stands!! We watched the horses race by and took some selfies with them!! We didn’t know how to actually bet on the horses so we just made up our own pretend bets with each other and my horse won!! It started in last place in the beginning and all of a sudden it was the first to cross the finish line!!! SOOOOO FUN!
Well 17,000 steps later we accomplished a pretty awesome day. We love Hong Kong and love having to walk everywhere and get back in shape…. Maybe? The treats are pretty yummy here so who knows what will happen...hehe! Thanks for following along.
