Why Do I travel?
January 18, 2018
There are endless reasons to travel and for everyone that reason could be different. Some go to experience exciting new cultures and others go to expand their perspectives. In this post, I am going to tell you about a few of the reasons why I love to travel!
Challenging yourself: Everyone loves a good challenge, am I right? Now imagine your challenge being in a new country where you don’t speak a lick of the language and you have to navigate your way through a subway to get to your hotel. Talk about tough! I have never had to problem solve so much in my life then when I lived in Asia. I loved the challenge even though some days I missed Café Rio (let’s be honest I could drink their house dressing like Dr.Pepper) but other days I excelled and faced those challenges head on.
Strengthening relationships: Oh man, living abroad with someone is something that I believe everyone should experience. You get to create new memories in incredible places that only you share. It also helps you bond together and really learn new skills. Your relationship will never be the same after, but I mean that in a good way! Whether you travel with your spouse, a friend or family member, your relationship will become stronger because of it and you will be so grateful for the new memories that you make.
Getting in touch with yourself: Moving away from home gave me the opportunity to reflect on my life. I learned so much about myself and grew in ways that I didn’t know were possible. It is pretty incredible to experience that growth first hand. Everyday traveling came with a new set of issues and opportunities. The way that I handled those issues helped me reflect on myself and who I am.
Exciting new adventures: Exploring new places is exhilarating and adventuring in those is a reason why I love to travel. We as humans crave new experiences, some may be a little wilder then others but overall, we want to try new things. We want to have an adventure. Traveling lets you have that adventure that you can’t get in your backyard (sadly I do not have a baby elephant in mine) but I get to have those experiences from traveling. Not only that but you feel so accomplished after adventuring! There is something gratifying about checking those bucket list boxes off and printing a new picture of your experience to hang on the wall.
Learning: I truly believe that if you are not progressing you are regressing. This applies to learning and how you are excelling as a person (mentally, spiritually etc.). I learned more seeing the world then I did in my geography high school class. By traveling to new places, you learn things that you can’t on paper. I can now recite so many facts about countries that I had no idea about prior to traveling there. I also feel that I am more accepting of other cultures and religions and have a new perspective on people. Every destination has something unique to discover and learn about, so go get educated and have fun doing it!
Gain appreciation: Last but not least, traveling gives you a new sense of appreciation. Some places that you may travel may not be as fortunate as the country that you come from. This may be hard to realize when you are used to your day to day routine. But traveling opens your eyes and makes you remember what you have. Once you’re back home, you’ll feel lucky to live where you do!
Are you convinced yet? Well you should be because traveling is life changing. I know that sounds corny but it’s true. You don’t have to go far in order to travel, you just have to go! So, if you are open to go anywhere but you’re not quite sure where, take this fun quiz and see what is says! It may surprise you what it picks but that’s the fun in traveling, it is always an adventure.
