Tian Tan Buddha & Fishing village
December 5, 2016
Big Buddha time! Today we finally decided to do the cable cars up to the famous Tian Tan Buddha! We bought out passes online here and got the sky•land•sea• pass for about $30 US! This pass included unlimited bus rides, roundtrip cable car rides and a boat excursion at the Tai O fishing village.
So we started our adventure at around 10:00 AM, our passes were for 11:45 but we wanted to have enough time to take the subway to the cable cars and all that fun stuff. We arrived at the area where you que in to get tickets and man it was HUGE!!!! We were sooo happy that we booked our tickets before hand because we got to go pass everyone in line and go right up to the counter to get our physical tickets! Pre planning for the win! After we got our passes we had to wait about 10 minutes to hop on the actual cable cars to get over to the Buddha. But man once we got on the cable cars and in the air it was worth the wait! The view was stunning! We got to see a totally different side to Hong Kong that features luscious greens & even waterfall all from up in the sky! It was so cool and that right there was worth the money to me

Once we arrived at the Buddha area, we got off the cable cars and had some lunch at subway! The area up at the top has tons of small shops, eateries and cool statues. Now because we bought the three in one ticket, we got to take a bus to the Tai O fishing village. We were told to do this first thing instead of going straight to the Buddha so that's what we did! There was a tiny line for the bus but we were able to get a spot. We went on the short 10 minute drive and arrived at the fishing village. Now this place makes you feel like you are in another century. It has an old town feel with the houses built on large stilts & it is something else. I feel in love with the colorful buildings and Chinese writings painted all over. I wouldn't mind living here... Okay maybe for only a little because the seafood smells are BAD! After we were done swooning over this beautiful place we hopped on a little boat for a ride around the village from the water and to go out to sea. We got to see the houses in a different way which we loved as well as some jumping fish swimming next to us! It was very serene and we loved getting to see the beautiful nature that makes up Hong Kong island. After we got off the boat we explored more of the village. Clint found his dream dog and had to get a picture with it! HA! The life style in the village is so different compared to the hustle and bustle that makes up the city life were we are currently staying. It was a very nice change of scenery!
( Sorry in advance for the 5 million pictures of this place below.. I couldn't help myself!)

Once we were done exploring we hoped back on the bus to head back to the Buddha area! We grabbed some drinks to help cool us off ( someone please tell me why I thought long sleeves and black leggings were a good idea!) LOL but it was nice to enjoy the atmosphere up there for a little. After we drank our drinks we started the climb up to the top of the Buddha, that may of sounded a little more dramatic than it was but it did have a couple hundred steps to reach the top so that's a climb to me. From up there we had a beautiful view of the island and we got to take lots of cool pictures. The real struggle was finding someone to take a picture of us haha but finally this nice Korean man asked if we needed help and I happily thanked him! Plus he knew how to work a camera so it was a win win!
After we saw the Buddha we walked over to the monastery that is there. We got to see the hall with 10,000 Buddhas which was incredible but we weren't allowed to take photos so you will just have to take my word on it! We got to see the monks worshipping and listen to their prayers. It was very cool! I have learned so much about different cultures and religions while living over here and for that I am forever grateful for. Nothing opens your eyes up more than experiencing something first hand and that is one of the reasons we decided to do this trip abroad. We wanted to create our own stories about places to tell our family and future kids, not other people's. We want to be able to show our kids a map to see where we have traveled and what we have learned and be able to teach them too. That is something that is really important to us because traveling helps you grow in more ways than one. It's not just all fun and games, it can be challenging and that is what makes it so rewarding! Okay that is my spiel for the day! I am just getting all nostalgic because we are leaving Asia so soon! ( crying face).
Here are some fun travel quotes that have been our theme for our trip so far!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” – Mark Twain
“Investment in travel is an investment in yourself.” - Matthew Karsten
