The hills are alive with the sound of....sheep?
December 20, 2016
Today we visited the Qingjing Veterans Farm. Now just imagine you are in the sound of music on top of the scenic greenery and fresh air. The hills were rolling with rice fields and culture. It has been opened since 1961 and includes a farm, green grasslands, small swiss garden, shoushan park, guest house and a stock nurturing center. We enjoyed the drive up there and getting to see all of the beautiful views from the hills above. Now of course feeding the sheep was so fun and hilarious at the same time. We went with Clints friend and his girlfriend and she was SO scared of them! Every time they would get near her she would freak out and run away HAHA! So funny! We enjoyed feeding the sheep as well as Clint trying to make them follow him up the mountain! HA Everyone was standing around watching Clint try to make it happen…. it didn’t really work! The place also has sheep shows and horses that you can watch and go to. Sadly, there was none open on a Monday but we still enjoyed looking at them.
They also have a cute light house that you can walk to and tons of shops selling sheep milk lotion, ice cream, soap and more! It was such a fun atmosphere and we enjoyed every second of it! I highly recommend visiting this place if you are in Taiwan and enjoy the views and feeding some sheep!
Once we were done up there, we headed back down to the main area of Taichung and visited the Rainbow village. Now a little background on this place is the houses once housed Kuomintang solider and their families after they retreated from Mainland China. In the last twenty years these villages have been disappearing, one by one. The government gave the land to building companies, providing in exchange new decent apartments to the surviving veterans or their families. One of these veterans villages was already being torn down house by house. One of the last village residents is Mr.Huang. One day he started to paint the empty and dying village. He painted animals, dolls, airplanes, manga characters, etc … All with vibrant colors, filling the walls and the alleys. Students of the nearby Ling Tung University discovered the paintings, a few years ago. Rainbow Village started to attract attention, at first only in Taichung, then island wide. After the protests of the local people, and also realizing that the village was becoming one of the attractions in Taichung City, the local government decided to suspend the demolition. We enjoyed the vibrant colors and beautiful painting that were all over the house and ground. It was stunning!
After we were done, we had to go to BeMos again because it is our favorite place and Jacob always has to take us there! We enjoyed the Mexican wrap and man it did not disappoint, but I must admit I am getting so EXCITED for café rio as soon as we get back. So if you need me, you will find me there! LOL
See you all next week! XOXO
