Taiwan: A week of adventure
September 26, 2016
This week was very exciting here on the island of Taiwan! It’s weird to think that we are on an island because we are inland so no beach in sight! Anyways I am going to give you a quick low down of things we did this past week!
We went to the park, which had an awesome lake with turtles, fishes, geese and lots of dogs everywhere! It was so fun to just run around outside and enjoy the fresh air.
The next day Clint’s friend Jacob came and picked us up and took us to a night market. At the night market I tried the most amazing thing one could ever eat, its called CHICKEN CHEESE! DEEP FRIEND CHICKEN WITH OOZZZING CHEESE INSIDE. SOOOO GOOD. Let’s just say I was very very happy. So YUM! After we went on a scooter ride up the mountain and saw a glorious view of Taichung. Wow. All I could think was THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I loved it so much!
A day or two later, I honestly get my days/time/hours mixed up we went on another adventure up the mountain! This time we went to a temple that was literally on top of the mountain. SO AWESOME! It was a beautiful scooter ride up there as well because we had to go through villages and rice fields. When we got to the top we walked around and took some pictures. We just loved basking in the gorgeousness of Taiwan! There was so much greenery everywhere and stray dogs LOL. After we went on a little scooter ride on the other side of the mountain and found some cool trees and another temple. Let’s just say that living 15 minutes away from the mountains and temples is the best FREE entertainment anyone could ask for!!! I LOVE IT!
We run into the missionaries all the time here and it is so fun (mostly because I get to speak English to someone other than Clint) LOL but I love talking to them and hearing all of their experiences so far! And of course it’s awesome to hear Clint relate about Elders that he knows and areas as well. Another cool place in Taiwan is a store called Net, it’s like H & M only CHEAPER!! WHAT WHAT!!! I got a skirt and shorts for $11!!!
Now flash forward to today, Monday, September 26, 2016 and the adventure that we went on was awesome! It started off by hoping on a train and going to Zhanghua. We got off the train and walked to this giant Buddha on the hill. Along the way we saw two other temples where people go to worship Buddha. It was awesome seeing their traditions and I loved learning more about the culture. We finally got to the stairs to walk to the Buddha AHHHH it was all up hill (which I don’t know why I thought it wouldn’t be because its literally on top of a hill) but lets just say it was hot and we were already tired from walking from the bus station. BUT we did it anyways and made it to the top! It was so worth it just for the view of the city alone, it was gorgeous and HUGE! We walked around, took pictures, got ice cream and fed some fish. It was very fun! We walked back to the train and while we were heading home we sat next to a congresswomen for the city of Taichung! She was so nice and completed my eyes so then we started talking and she had perfect English. I asked her what she did for work and she said, “ Don’t laugh but I am a politician” so funny! But it was great meeting someone so genuine and nice! She offered us to stay with her probably 5 times! I LOVE PEOPLE HERE! It was a great day and it has been a great 10 days here in Taiwan.
Stay tuned for more fun times & for the typhoon that is about to hit! AHHH
