Travel tips & Starfish point
February 19, 2017
Okay party people, we had the day off and it was time for an adventure on the island. We decided that we wanted to rent a scooter for the day and scooter all over. We rented from Cayman Auto rentals. We were pretty satisfied with this place. We had called ahead of time to make sure that we would have a scooter and we asked more about the price. Online it says $35 US for the day, but of course they add $5 for insurance and than $20 if you don't have a international scooter license. SO all in all its $60 US. We were able to get out of the extra $20 fee because we live on the island #perksofbeingalocal so that was a nice surprise! We love saving money every way that we can! In doing so, we are able to travel more and do more things at the places we travel to/live in.
Now I am going to take a second and explain a little bit more about our life and how we do what we do. I have had a plethora of people wondering, "How the heck do you travel? How do you afford it? Especially being a young married couple?!!" These are of course valid questions and I always wonder the same thing too from people that I see traveling all over the world. Now I would say 95% of time people are being sponsored to travel for a living so they actually make money and get free traveling! Can you say dream job? Well we are nowhere NEAR that lucky and I would love to know how people get those hook ups but for now we will just do what we know best which is SAVE SAVE SAVE. I am not going to lie, those words are NOT my favorite words in the world. Most of the time they are associated with "Can't, Won't & Shouldn't". Does that sound like fun to anyone? Well it certainly doesn't sound fun to me! But in order to travel we have to be willing to make sacrifices to do so.
Now lets apply this to your life, say you are wanting to do a fun trip somewhere with your spouse or friends? 1st question is how are you going to pay for the trip? Do you have savings? Are you currently working? What can you do to afford the trip?
These can be stressful and hard questions to figure out! I always say start small and work your way up. Can you go without spending extra money on Tbell or McDonalds runs? Can you hold off on buying the new shirt from one of the many Instagram Boutiques you are following? If you and your spouse get a soda every date night, lets say once a week, that's $6 a week, $24 a month, $288 a YEAR! JUST ON SODA!! These little savings will make a HUGE difference in your overall travel budget.
Now lets put some other things into perspective.
New iPhone 7 $649 : Round-trip ticket to Asia $500
Dinner @ The Cheesecake Factory $50: Thailand Elephants excursion $40
Hoover board $300: Round-trip ticket to Cali $295
New outfit $100: 3 Night stay in an Japan Airbnb $90
60 inch Flat screen TV $400 : 7 night Caribbean cruise $349
ANYONE CAN TRAVEL!!! It may not be your dream vacation of spending a month traveling Europe staying in fancy hotels and going to over the top restaurants but it could be a week in Thailand staying in tiny Airbnbs and eating at the local market and riding a scooter to private beaches! It is possible to travel affordable you just have to be willing to sacrifice a little and budget before. BUT don’t get me wrong, you can have your dream vacation, you just have to realize what you are able to do right now and either wait to travel so that you can save more or decide to budget your life better now.
So that is my first tip as to why we are able to travel and that is because of SAVING. We don’t do expensive date nights or buy new cars or get the latest and greatest technology because we would rather save and spend that money on experiences. We believe that traveling is the only thing that makes you richer. I will tell you a little more about how we save when we are living in the places that we go but that is for another day and another post! :)
SO back to Starfish point! We used our Google maps to track how to get there and it was about an hour scooter ride from the rental place. It was SO beautiful to get there so we didn’t mind the ride at all. 90% of the time we were riding along the cost and it was pure scenic ocean views. We made it to water cay which is where the point it and it was breath taking. Seriously the most stunning picturesque view I have ever seen. It consisted of white sand that stays shallow until it drops off.

Along the white sand were the dozens of starfish that stood out through the clear water.
We walked along the water and even saw a sting ray lurking close to us! It was a little bit freaky but still really cool. We explored the water and found a giant conk shell that still had the creature living in it. This place was wonderful! I highly recommend making the drive up here because it looks like a desk top wall paper its that pretty!
