An adventurous Thanksgiving in HK
November 24, 2016
HAPPY TURKEY DAY from 7,265 miles away! Wow that sounds really far now that I think about it. I still cant believe we are lucky enough to spend this time together in Asia! It is truly a blessing and has been such an incredible journey. Although we miss our family and friends back home we really just miss the pumpkin pie… KIDDING! But we have to admit a nice homemade roll sounds pretty dang good but oh well there is still next year!
So today we decided to go out on a little adventure because the weather was so sunny and awesome! We headed up to the Chi Lin Nunnery! A little background on this place is it is a large temple complex of elegant wood architecture and lotus ponds. The complex has a series of temple halls which contain gold, clay and wooden statues representing divinities such as Sakyamuni Buddha and bodhisattvas. It was established in 1934 and renovated in 1990. There we enjoyed learning more about the Buddhist religion and seeing the beautiful grounds of the nunnery. It is a MUST see if you ever visit Hong Kong and is so easy to get to.

After we were done at the nunnery, we cut through the high rise apartments across the street to the Nan Lian Garden. This is a public park but on STEROIDS. It is a garden landscape over an area with rocks, ponds, plants and flowers. There are exhibits of Chinese architecture, potted plants and fish. We fell in love with the yellow pagoda on the water as well as the waterfall rock wall. It is very peaceful and serene and we could have stayed there all afternoon if we weren’t hungry. The best part is it’s free and you can decide how much time you want to spend there. If you are in a hurry you can go through quick or take it slow.
Once we were done exploring we grabbed some lunch and walked around a huge shopping mall because is it even thanksgiving without shopping? I don’t think so! I got a cute shirt from H&M since they were having a black Friday sale and then we went into Sees candy and got some chocolate!! We headed back to the subway and went home for a much needed nap after the long day of walking on our feet. We are now headed to a friend’s house for a thanksgiving dinner with his family! Wish us luck and eat lots of pumpkin pie for me! XOXO
